The instructions below are intended as a guide. You can use more or less coffee depending on your taste.
Store your coffee in a sealed container, in a cool, dry place, and away from sunlight.
You can enjoy your coffee any number of ways, but here are some of the most popular (for all preparations, it is best to use filtered water):
If you are using a whole bean coffee, for best results, grind the beans according to the following table:
FILTERED COFFEE
YOU WILL NEED:
Herb & Alchemy coffee, Coffee brewer, Filter (for use with brewer), Water
INSTRUCTIONS:
- Place the filter in the brew basket. You may choose to rinse the filter to remove any paper taste.
- Separately measure the coffee using 1-2 tablespoons for every 6 ounces of coffee.
- Add water to the machine’s reservoir.
- Add the coffee grounds to the filter and place it in the machine.
- Start the machine’s brewing cycle. Allow to brew fully before pouring any coffee.
- Enjoy.
POUR OVER METHOD
(HARIO V60 OR CHEMEX)
YOU WILL NEED:
Herb & Alchemy coffee, Pour over funnel, Paper filter (preferably unbleached), Water, Kettle (preferably with a gooseneck spout), Scale, Timer
INSTRUCTIONS:
- Place the filter into the funnel and, using hot water, wet the filter thoroughly.
- For a 12 oz pour, weigh and level 20-25 grams of coffee into the filter.
- Place the dripper on your mug.
- Measure out the water needed for your coffee. Heat to 200 degrees Fahrenheit (if you don’t have a thermometer, bring the water to a boil and allow it to cool for 30 seconds or a minute.
- Start your timer and pour the hot water over the coffee grounds, spiraling outward from the center, until the grounds have been just covered.
- At each of the one, two and three minute marks, add one third of the remaining coffee, spiraling inward from the outer edge. Each pour should take approximately 20 seconds.
- Allow the remaining coffee to drain through the coffee grounds.
- Enjoy.
MOKA POT
YOU WILL NEED:
Herb & Alchemy coffee, Moka Pot, Water, Stove
Use 1 tablespoon of ground coffee for each cup your moka pot makes (if your moka pot makes 3 cups, use 3 tablespoons of ground coffee).
INSTRUCTIONS:
- Fill the bottom chamber with water.
- Fill the filter basket completely with the coffee grounds and level the grounds without compacting them.
- Assemble the Moka Pot. Ensure it is tightly sealed.
- With the lid open, place the Moka Pot on the stove over medium heat.
- Once the top chamber is full, remove the Moka Pot from the heat and close the lid.
- Enjoy.
FRENCH PRESS
YOU WILL NEED:
Herb & Alchemy coffee, French Press, Kettle, Water, Scale, Timer, Stirring Utensil
INSTRUCTIONS:
- Depending on the size of your French Press, weigh your coffee and place it into the French Press.
- Measure out the water needed for your coffee. Heat to 200 degrees Fahrenheit (if you don’t have a thermometer, bring the water to a boil and allow it to cool for 30 seconds or a minute.
- Start the timer and pour water into the French press until it fully covers the coffee grounds at the bottom of the container.
- Allow the coffee to “bloom” for 30 seconds.
- Pour the remaining water to fill the French Press.
- After four minutes, slowly press the plunger down.
- Enjoy.
